Extreme Makeover: Me Edition

If you would like to join in on EM: ME check out Amber's blog by clicking HERE!

This week's question: There isn't one. :) Just update us on your progress. How you're doing. What you're doing. How you're feeling about what you're doing.

  • How am I doing? Okay! I haven't been as consistent with my workouts as I would like to be, but I'm still getting a few in a week, which I'm just happy it's a few and not none. Working out was so much easier when I was in the city and I could walk to the gym, or I had steep hills and mile long stairs practically in my back yard. Now, living in the country, I have to drive 30 mins. if I want to go to a gym, and the elliptical that I bought for 100 bucks that I was so excited about, broke down after only two weeks :( (I bought it from a friend, and the part that broke, they no longer make. BUMMER!) So now I am having to get creative with my exercise, which is good. Means I need to get OUTSIDE more and run/walk, jump rope, Wii Fit, Jillian Michaels DVDs etc. I CAN DO THIS!

  • What am I doing? I recently put my goals on a calendar and started checking off the days as they go by and it really is amazing to have that visual. I wish I had done this sooner. And today, I also got onto my account at fitday.com. This is a FREE site and it is so awesome! You can put your weight in, what you want to weigh, how long you want to give yourself for a goal and it will calculate for you how many lbs. a week you need to lose a week to reach your goal. There is also a food journal, progress updates etc. (too much to explain) but again it is FABULOUS and FREE so go check it out! You'll love it!

Bachelorette Review- Just a few words for Jillian Harris....

Oh the joys of Monday nights, to watch grown men make complete fools of them self. I have to say, I look forward to watching the Bachelorette every week (even if I do have to watch it online because my cable network no longer carries ABC- Thank goodness for free online episodes!) :)

Jillian, here are a few things I got from last nights episode.

  • Jake- the pilot, is pretty hot, and he seems really into you. I like him a lot, but he almost seems to good to be true. I am hoping that he is NOT the one that the previews elude to being on the show just to be the next bachelor. The jury is still out and I will continue to keep my eye on you.
  • Jesse- the wine maker, I like him, and he seems sweet and doesn't get to involved with all the drama.
  • Ed- he is under the radar. I think he is pretty good looking, and I have a sneaking suspicion that he may go pretty far. I am looking forward to getting to know him better as the weeks go by to really make a decision on him. But so far, he's a keeper.
  • Mike- who wore the speedo in the ocean, good move, it is probably what kept him in the game. I think he seems nice enough, but not sure how far he will make it.
  • Michael- the break dancer, I think he is hilarious, I don't think he is the one for you Jillian, but I am glad you kept him around. (and the car scene with him and Tanner, too funny, they were like two school girls going to a NKOTB concert)
  • David- I liked David, I was rooting for David to go to the end, but good looks can only get you so far, what is he thinking getting so involved in the drama. He needs to spend more time thinking about Jillian and less time about Juan and Wes. Unfortunately I think his temper is going to get the best of him and ultimately will send him home. Too bad, because I really did like him.
  • Wes- I am not a fan AT ALL. I know others have liked him, but to me, he is in it to get his name out there, and I will Cheer out loud the day he is booted (because I am banking on the fact that he will hopefully get booted)
  • Juan- Even though I don't like how David is handling the whole situation, I do agree with him, I am not a huge fan of Juan's. I won't be sad to see him go and I hope it is sooner, rather then later. But.... maybe he'll surprise me down the road, who knows.
  • Kiptyn- I am not so sure about you. Time will tell.
  • Tanner P.- GROSS, the foot fetish thing is really starting to freak me out. At first I was going to give him the benefit of doubt, but now, ewwww. I am glad that in this episode Jillian you started to notice it a bit, too bad it wasn't enough to send him home already.
  • Simon- glad you let him go tonight.

Can't wait until next week, keep the drama coming! :)

Friend Makin Mondays

So this is my first Friend Makin Monday, but I couldn't resist when I read today's question. And I have loved reading my 'blogging buddies' responses every Monday, so I am taking the plunge. If you want to find out more about FMM's then check out Kasey's blog by clicking here! (and go read more of the fabulous stories on how people met their spouses!)

Today's question is:

How did you and your significant other meet?

This is a very long story that I am going to try to make into a much shorter version. So I apologize that it will most likely still be very long! :)

I first heard about my husband in college in 1996, one of my very best friends dated him in HS and her and I had similar breakup stories in regards to our HS sweethearts and so a friendship started between us. At the time, he was in the Marines, stationed in Japan. We were in Corvallis, at OSU. I didn't meet him until sometime my sophomore year in College, my friend and I drove to Seattle to another college (PLU) to meet up with Dan (my husband) and a few other friends and we drove to Vancouver, Canada for the weekend. Off and on I would hear about him or randomly talk to him on the phone because he and my friend kept in touch.

In the spring of 2001, I had one of the worst years of my life, I had been in a terrible relationship and was living in Seattle, Wa. and the guy that I had been dating had proposed to me, but I knew he was NOT the man I was supposed to be with, I ended up packing up my apartment and moving to Portland, OR. where my friend and Dan were living. At this point, Dan was out of the Marines and he and my friend were dating again. The day that I moved to Portland, I went out with Dan, my friend, and another guy that they had went to HS with, his name was Kris. I ended up dating Kris and fell MADLY in love with him. We dated for a little over a year, and our break-up was not good, I was so in love with him and he just didn't feel the same way. Before Kris and I had broke up, I couldn't stand Dan! I thought he treated my friend like crap and basically I thought he was a jerk. I would make fun of him, and ask my friend, why in the world was she ever with him. (LOL, funny to look back now)
So when Kris and I had broke up, so did Dan and my friend (right around the same time). And Dan ended up moving to Southern California. My friend would have me call him to get him on the phone for her and I am thinking that at some point that is how he got my number because then he started calling me. We would sometimes end up talking for hours at a time, I would cry to him about Kris and he would be so upset about his break-up with my friend that we would just console each other. He would usually talk to me until I fell asleep. One month my friend and I were supposed to take a road trip to Cali. to see him, but she had started dating the man she would eventually marry so she cancelled the trip at the last min. Dan had taken the time off of work so he told me that he had a ticket already and that I should fly down. I ended up doing just that, and we had such a great week (strictly as friends- at this point I still only thought of him as a friend and no way in a million years would I EVER consider dating him, I was still hung up on the ex Kris) so on our vacation we went to Disneyland, Mexico, out to eat at fabulous restaurants and really started a true friendship.
That summer I was still so miserable because of my ex, I had to get out of Portland for a few months, so I decided to take a leave of absence from my work and go to Montana for the summer to work in Glacier Park. (Dan is from MT. and I had also worked there two summers while in college). Not knowing that Dan also would be moving to Montana for the summer. We hung out almost everyday, but again, we were 'just' friends. A few more years went by and we would call sporadically and see each other now and then, but again I NEVER thought of him in that way. It was like taboo, because he had dated one of my very best friends.

Then in Oct. of 2005 I took my nephew to Disneyland and Dan met up with us and stayed for our entire trip. I didn't think anything of it until I got home and showed everyone the pictures of him with my nephew and me etc. My Mom looked at the pictures and was like, 'he likes you!' and of course I was still in denial. That January, Dan came to visit me in my home town on his drive from MT. back to California. He had bought me a birthday present (my b-day is New Years Eve) and they were diamond earrings. After he left, my Mom stated again that he liked me and that no boy would buy diamond earrings for a girl he didn't like. I was STILL in denial. Then Valentines Day rolls around and I get two dozen roses delivered to me at work and it didn't say who they were from. I knew they were from Dan, because by this point we had started talking more then usual, almost everyday.

He came to visit me twice in Portland, but we were still nothing more then friends. Then one day (around March of 2006) he texted me and said, what are you making me for dinner, and I said, ummm, if you come here (to Portland) I will make you something, and the next thing I knew he was on a flight from Cali. to Oregon and basically we have been together ever since. I didn't know it then, but he said he had started liking me about 3 years earlier.
He bought my engagement ring about one month into our relationship (I didn't know this until later) and he proposed to me the night before we went on a trip to Ireland on Oct. 8th 2006 and we were married one year later on Oct. 13, 2007. 10 years after I first met him.

And that is our story! :) Wow, sorry that took so long (and if you can believe it, that was the short version).

this and that...

I hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day Weekend. I haven't been able to blog much with my husband home; dinner making, cleaning up after two instead of one (me), doing laundry etc. takes up so much time. It is amazing when I am home alone because the house will stay clean for days, even weeks, laundry hardly piles up at all because I don't wash something if I wear it only once and didn't get it dirty, my bed stays made because I don't roll around like a mad man twisting the blankets between my legs, and I put things away after I use them. Hmmm, my husband on the other hand goes through more laundry then anyone I have ever met, our bed looks like a tornado hit it in the morning even if I made it the night before and tucked in all of the sheets in hopes that he won't rip them out, and I think he uses 5 (different) glasses a day because he must not realize where he left his last glass. LOL. But you know what? I wouldn't change it for anything. I LOVE having him home* and if that means extra housework, more laundry and completely remaking the bed everyday, I am HAPPY to do it. :) It would make me sad if he wasn't around and I would (yes, really) miss the little things that might annoy me sometimes, because just knowing he is at home makes me feel so good. So enjoy your husbands, your children, your in-laws, your crazy family, because one day you might miss the things that you once thought were annoying. :)

*my husband was gone for about 3 months for a job out of town. Thankfully he is now back home full time.

A few things....

  • I am a slacker, I haven't posted in almost a week! But sometimes, 'life' happens, and now that my husband is home for good, I have very little time to get on the computer to play. While he was gone, I pretty much lived on the computer (which I do anyway for work) but when he is home he hates it when I am on the computer in the evenings because he says I'm on it all day long (which is true, but as mentioned earlier, my work is on the computer, so I have a good excuse) :)
  • Helen won the BL- YUCK! :( I was so bummed, and I know that this is a week late, but I so badly wanted my rock star motivator Tera to win. I would have been happy with Mike winning too, I liked him a lot, but Tera was a machine and I felt like she really deserved it. And although Helen's daughter wanted to go home and asked her Mom to stay, I just couldn't believe she didn't fight for her daughter to stay on the Ranch, and her daughter obviously needed it, because she is still very over weight. Oh well, I'm over it. Can't wait for next season....
  • Survivor had a HAPPY ENDING, JT won! :) I was bummed at the fact that they let Taj go, but overall JT was a decent guy and Steven bugged me sooooo bad, so I was very happy with the Survivor finale, and I heart my DVR because I can fast forward through all of the boring stuff like when they put out the torches for all of the voted off contestants. BORING, I don't need to see all of that again. Funniest part was that my hubby hates all reality shows and I was watching it in bed while I thought he was asleep but he wasn't and he actually got interested in seeing who won. But he did have me fast forward through the slow parts (again, thank you maker of the DVR) :) And at 2 a.m. we finally finished watching it and went to bed.

  • *****SPOILER ALERT***** (if you haven't finished the Twilight series, or you think you may one day read it, but haven't yet, don't read anything further) You have been warned. :)

  • Okay, so I finished the final book in the Twilight Saga last night; Breaking Dawn, and I have to say, it was AWESOME and I am really sad that I don't have more to read about my favorite couple of all time, Edward and Bella. However, a few things really bugged me about the last book.
  1. It was super icky the whole imprinting on a child thing
  2. It was even more icky that Jacob imprinted on Reneesmee. I know that the author tried to explain it all so it wouldn't be icky, but it was still icky. And I know that it helped with the whole reason the vampires were involved in the fight against the Volturi, but seriously she could have thought of something else that could have worked.
  3. I am glad that the ending left things open and that she could eventually make more books with the same characters, and that Bella and Edward are still alive.
  4. A few things that I think Stephanie Meyers (the author) should do in any future Twilight Saga books: Somehow, make it so Jacob didn't really imprint on Nessie. I think Jacob needed to imprint with Leah. And Jacob can be like an Uncle to her instead of her future Husband (yuck!) Nessie needs to have a whole new love interest (when she is old enough). and Emmett and Rosalie should find out about powers they have that they never knew they had. (just my two cents Stephanie!) :)

Reality Show Countdown!

So some of you may know that I am a reality show junkie (and happened to be on one that aired in 2005- and I won!) I love so many (Survivor, Amazing Race, Biggest Loser, The Hills, RW/RR challenges, Big Brother) that it is so hard to choose which ones are my favorite, but I do have two that take the cake.

And they are.................. Drum roll please........................(duh duh duh daaaaa)

The Bachelor/Bachelorette which will be airing on ABC one week from today on Monday May 18th- Yeah!!! can't wait to see my girl Jillian.

And then the one I have been waiting for ALL YEAR LONG to air again: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE!!!! (thanks to my old roommate Sara who got me hooked) I swear, if you have never watched it, it is the best show on television. They do auditions like American idol and then compete each week and do a variety of different dances. It airs on FOX on Thursday May 21st at 8/7c. I can't wait! Here is a clip of one of last seasons dances. I hope you all will join in the weekly fun of watching with me. And I will for sure be updating on both shows throughout their duration. :)
